Best places to eat in Copenhagen for students

When you move to a new city or country to study, one of the most exciting parts is immersing yourself into its culture, and this is particularly true for Copenhagen. We think that one of the best ways to embrace local culture is to taste and enjoy Danish cuisine! Renowned all over the world for its quality and flavour, once you’ve tasted authentic Danish food, you’ll fall in love! A few of our favourite Danish dishes include:

  • Smørrebrød
  • Tarteletter
  • Stegt rødspætte
  • Pickled Herring
  • Danish Pastries

If you’ve just moved or are thinking about moving to the beautiful city of Copenhagen to study, you’ll be wanting to learn about the hottest spots to grab a bite to eat with friends after lectures. At Nido, we’ve put together a list of the top 5 best restaurants in Copenhagen for students:

  • Pastor Tacos
  • Morgenstedet
  • Grillen Burgerbar
  • The Union Kitchen
  • Scurry Hub

Whether you’re looking for authentic, fresh Danish restaurants, clean and nutritious places for brunch or juicy burger bars, we’ve got you covered!

Pastor Tacos

The first restaurant to make our top 5 list of the best places to eat in Copenhagen is Pastor Tacos, a vibrant, family-run restaurant that offers delicious, authentic Mexican food. We’re getting hungry just thinking about this incredible restaurant!

Offering classic, sumptuous Mexican dishes, they have an extensive menu that ranges from simple starters to full on feasts. When you take a seat at Pastor Tacos, you’ll be greeted by the likes of:

  • Pastor (slow-cooked pork Gyros)
  • Rajas Con Napoles (Poblano chilli with Mexican cactus, coconut cream, and onions)
  • Beef burritos
  • Elote (Corn Cob with Cheese, Mayo and Chilli Powder)
  • Nachos

They also do vegan dishes too which means you can enjoy a delicious meal with your new uni friends without worrying about menu limitations. The best part? Prices are very reasonable so you can treat yourself to an incredible lunch without breaking the bank – Tacos are 2 for 75 kr, while Gringas are 49 KR each!

It’s just a 7 minute cycle away from Pastor Tacos to the University of Copenhagen’s South Campus so you can grab lunch on your way back from lectures. Don’t fancy dining in? They even have a takeaway option so you can take your food back to your accommodation.

Morgenstedet

As a student, it’s really important to look after your mind, body and soul. Protecting your wellbeing and looking after yourself whilst studying may seem difficult at times, but that’s where we’re here to support you! If you’re looking to enjoy a fresh, clean and sustainable meal that will nourish your body, Morgenstedet is the perfect restaurant for you.

Morgenstedet is one of the most unique places to eat in the whole of Copenhagen because all the chefs are volunteers. As a result, the menu varies depending on who is working, adding a touch of excitement to your mealtime! Whatever the menu looks like, you can rest assured that all dishes are vegetarian and carefully prepared with organic ingredients.

Whether you’re into sustainable living and want to eat organic food, or you’re looking for brain food ahead of a big study session, Morgenstedet is the restaurant for you. It takes just 8 minutes to cycle to Morgenstedet from the University of Copenhagen’s South Campus, making it the ideal place to enjoy lunch between lectures.

Grillen Burgerbar

The next delicious restaurant on our top 5 list of the best places to eat in Copenhagen is Grillen Burgerbar. The clue is in the name, Grillen Burgerbar offers the tastiest burgers in the city. In fact, with 9 restaurants around Denmark, you’ll be able to stop for a bite to eat no matter where your day takes you!

With a varied menu, whether you want a beef, chicken or halloumi burger, Grillen Burgerbar has a tasty treat waiting for you. Who doesn’t love a deliciously fresh and juicy burger? Our mouths are watering already! It’s not just the food that’s amazing though, the price is too. You can get a burger, chips and a dip of your choice for 99 KR, making it the ultimate weekend treat.

Grillen Burgerbar is just an 11 minute cycle away from the University of Copenhagen’s South Campus so you can grab your meal on the way home after a day of lectures. If you don’t fancy sitting in a restaurant, they also offer takeaway which means you can relax in the comfort of your university accommodation with your flatmates while tucking into your burgers. Nothing says Friday night quite like burgers, board games and best friends!

The Union Kitchen

Breakfast, brunch, dinner and cocktails…did somebody say heaven? The Union Kitchen is a trendy, atmospheric cocktail bar and restaurant that’s very popular among students in Copenhagen. With the trendy vibe and incredible food, we can totally see why it doubles up as both one of the best restaurants and bars in Copenhagen.

You’re spoilt for choice at The Union Kitchen as this sensational restaurant boasts two menus, one for during the day and the other for after sunset. We can barely contain our excitement at the sound of some of their most popular dishes:

  • Shakshuka
  • Halloumi burgers
  • Eggs benedict
  • Fried chicken & waffles
  • Truffle fries
  • Spicy chicken balls
  • Greek salad

You can also enjoy delicious cocktails, making it the perfect place to spend an evening with friends, whether you’re celebrating the end of assignments or someone’s birthday! This also makes it one of the most exciting places to go during Fresher’s Week as you can get to know your new flatmates over a tasty meal and a few drinks.

The Union Kitchen is only a 5 minute cycle from the University of Copenhagen’s City Campus so you can treat yourself to a tasty meal at the end of an exciting week of lectures!

Scurry Hub

The final stop on our tour of the best cheap eats in Copenhagen is a small restaurant right next to the University of Copenhagen’s City Campus, serving authentic Thai street food. Scurry Hub is a great spot to enjoy a deliciously flavoursome meal in between lectures, and may even give you some inspiration for other dishes you can cook up a storm in your own kitchen with!

Whether you’re in the mood for a Thai curry, stir-fry or noodles, they’ve got the perfect dish waiting for you. Some of our favourite dishes include:

  • Panang Curry
  • Green Curry
  • Chicken Tamarind
  • Chicken Satay
  • Fried Noodles with Vegetables

With all of their incredible street food dishes, you can choose whether you want vegetables, meat or tofu to be the star of the meal which is great if you’re eating with a group of friends as there’s so much variation. Scurry Hub is perfect for students on a budget, with meals costing around 65 kr so you know you can enjoy a tasty lunchtime treat without breaking the bank.

Scurry Hub is only a 2 minute walk from the University of Copenhagen so you could be sitting down and tucking into a tasty meal quicker than you can say ‘Panang Curry’. Don’t have time between lectures to sit in, or want to get home and watch a film after a long day?
