One of the most important things to us is looking after our students and their mental wellbeing, so we’re delighted to see even more positive results come out of the NSHS survey this year, this time for wellbeing.

Despite the NSHS survey being cut short due to the COVID-19 pandemic, we still managed to encourage many of our students to complete the survey so that we can really find out how we’ve faired against the industry averages.

As highlighted in one of our previous blogs about NSHS, the survey is our way of gathering feedback from our students across many different areas. It helps us to improve upon our student offering, whether that’s laying on more wellbeing focused virtual events, or adding in more processes in-house that encourage sustainability.

How did we perform?

  • One area we performed particularly well on was wellbeing.
  • 70% of our students felt that the house team at their Nido, really cared about their wellbeing.
  • 66% also believed that their accommodation has had a positive impact on their wellbeing.
  • On these two particular survey scores, we performed above the national average.
  • On top of that, our West Hampstead and St James residences outperformed the whole industry for for wellbeing.

How do we promote student wellbeing?

We know that having a healthy mind and body is very important to the students that live with us. That’s why we run many wellbeing focused events and virtual events. In recent times our events have shifted online via our Instagram page so we can be more inclusive to our students, especially with some having to return home due to the pandemic. Our wellbeing focused virtual events include:

  • Yoga classes
  • Meditation classes
  • Dance workouts
  • Cardio workouts
  • Meditation classes
  • No jump workouts
  • Barre workouts
  • Arm workouts
  • Interval circuit workouts
  • Boxercise workouts
  • Hiit workouts

To name a few!

Our initiatives don’t stop there… we were also running events in-house before we were hit by the effects of COVID-19.

These include:

  • Doggy Day Care
  • Breakfast Clubs
  • Bring a Dish Dinners
  • Yoga Classes

We know that university life can be stressful so we’re always looking for different ways that we can promote positive wellbeing in our buildings

Time to Change

We’re proud to announce that we’ve also partnered up with Time to Change, a Mental Health campaign in England that aims to reduce mental health-related stigma and discrimination. They give free information on Mental Health as well as other challenges you might face.

If you’re interested in learning a bit more about Time a Change, we’ve recently run a Q&A session with them called ‘Stay In, Stay Positive’ via our IGTV channel which you can watch here.
