Nido is launching a Student Design Challenge in 2022. This years competition is open to all students of interior design and interior architecture and we’re challenging you to design one of the social or study spaces to be brought to life as part of our Porto scheme.

Brief
Brief: To design one of the social and study spaces within the Nido Porto Student Residence. This space should suit the needs of it’s student audience, be adaptable for various uses, should incorporate relevant prop-tech, and should be highly localised for the city and micro-location.
Space: A large blank canvas with floor to ceiling windows down one side and plenty of natural light throughout. You will be provided with the floorplan, measurements and elevations of the space.
Suggested needs/ uses of the space: Studying, relaxing with friends, entertaining, events, socialising
Keywords: Local, Functional, Fresh, Gender Neutral, Contemporary, Comfortable, Bold
Budget: £50,000
Anticipated outcomes
No matter how you present your final entry, the judges will want to see that you’ve met the brief and understood layout, flexibility of use, been bold in your theme and design, incorporated local aesthetics and norms and anticipated the customer needs.
Some ideas for final entry: Moodboard, Layout/ Floorplan, Inspiration, Drawings or CGI’s, budget breakdown.
Prize
The winning entry will gain the winners certificate alongside real industry experience and will get the opportunity to see their design come to life. They will also received a cash prize.
Two further runners up will also be selected to win cash prizes and a special recognition certificates.
