Exploring a city has never been easier than in Seville, with its brilliantly accessible public transport. Whether you take the bus, the metro or walk, you’ll be uncovering the treasures of this wonderful city in no time at all.
Let’s get started!
Royal Alcázar of Seville
As you move to a brand new city, and maybe even country, to study, you’ll want to learn about its history and culture. You’re in luck with Seville, a city renowned for its deep history and vibrant Spanish culture! One of the best things to do in Seville to learn about its rich past is to visit the Royal Alcázar of Seville, a royal palace built for Peter of Castile.
Known for its exquisite architecture, every single one of the intricately designed tiles tell a story about the palace’s history. You can also walk around the enchanting gardens of the palace which has beautiful fountains, arches, courtyards and more. What more could you ask for as you learn about your new city?
Why is the Royal Alcázar of Seville one of the best places to visit in Seville on a budget? Between April-September (6pm-7pm) and October-March (4pm-5pm) you can enter for FREE. This means you can spend your evening wandering around the palace and its stunning grounds without breaking the bank!
Conveniently located right next to the University of Seville, it will take you less than a minute to walk to the palace after lectures, making it the perfect place to visit with course mates.
Plaza de España
If you’re looking for free things to do in Seville that also offer the chance to experience life in Seville authentically, Plaza de España is the place for you! Plaza de España is one of the most popular plazas in Seville and is completely free to walk around which means you can enjoy a wonderful day out without spending a penny (or Euro)!
Plaza de España is one of the best places to visit in Seville for students for two main reasons; Firstly, it immerses you into the wonderful Spanish culture and exhibits the most beautiful Spanish architecture. However, it also offers a lovely outside area to walk around and take in the views while getting some well-needed fresh air.
There is no better way to make friends at university than exploring your new city together. Plaza de España offers you the chance to socialise with friends and get to know them as you uncover the beauty of Seville. Did you know…Plaza de España is picture-perfect and a very popular spot for photos, so you can take insta-worthy photos with new friends and create memories to last a lifetime?
The best part about visiting Plaza de España is that it’s only a 6 minute walk from the University of Seville, making it the perfect location to visit before or after classes with friends!
Metropol Parasol
Are you looking for fun, interesting or unique things to do in Seville as a student? If so, the Metropol Parasol is a must-visit! With incredible views, cultural significance, delicious food and more, it’s got everything you need for a thrilling day out in Seville!
Constructed only in 2011, Metropol Parasol is an intriguing and uniquely designed landmark in Seville. A striking piece of contemporary art, right in the heart of the city, you can walk around Metropol Parasol and enjoy breathtaking 360 degree views of Seville – will you watch the sunrise or the sunset? As you climb to new heights, don’t forget to wave to us at Nido El Porvenir!
Do you have a keen interest in archaeology? Perhaps you’re studying it for your degree, or you may simply be looking for something to do on the weekend. Whatever the reason, Metropol Parasol is home to a museum which doubles up as the largest archaeological site in Seville – it truly is the gift that keeps on giving!
We understand that budgeting is really important when you’re a student, which is why Metropol Parasol is one of the best places to visit in Seville as admission is discounted for EU students to 12 Euros. Just a 15 minute bus journey away from the University of Seville, you’ll be taking in the magnificent sites of Metropol Parasol in no time at all.
Seville Cathedral
Seville Cathedral is one of the most renowned attractions for students in Seville, and Spain overall, because it offers a slice of history, culture, architecture and more. Located right in the heart of the city, Seville Cathedral is a must-visit place for any student.
Offering some of the world’s most beautiful architecture, you don’t even need to go inside to admire the intricate designs of the cathedral. If you do decide to go inside and explore this sensational cathedral, you’ll be delighted to know you can get discounted tickets as a student, so you’ll only need to pay 6 Euros if you buy your ticket online!
Here are three things you may not know about Seville Cathedral:
- It is the largest Gothic cathedral in the world, meaning there truly is no better place to see mesmerising Gothic architecture up close
- Seville Cathedral is a UNESCO World Heritage Site, along with the Royal Alcázar of Seville, so you can make a day of visiting both!
- Right in the centre of Seville, the cathedral is only an 8 minute walk from the University of Seville
Seville Cathedral is one of our favourite things to do in Seville as you can enjoy a relaxing afternoon wandering around the cathedral and learning about the deep history of the city – it may inspire your coursework!
Mercado de Triana
The Spanish street markets of Seville are very popular with students because you’ll often be trying to stick to strict budgets and buying food from the market instead of a supermarket can often help save Euros. Nothing says immersing yourself in Spanish culture quite like visiting the market for your fresh ingredients!
One of our favourite markets in Seville, and one of the most popular is Mercado de Triana. This infamous Spanish market provides everything from fresh meat and fish to bread and other produce. Plus, it’s FREE to visit Mercado de Triana so you can have the most wonderful day while also sticking to your budget. It only takes 13 minutes by bus (or a 20 minute walk) to get to Mercado de Triana from the University of Seville.
What makes Mercado de Triana stand out from the crowd is the fact it has a museum you can enter to learn more about its history, making it a particularly perfect place to visit when you first move to Seville. Culture, history and authentic, fresh food? We’ll see you there!
