Maastricht, Netherlands, 3 June 2024 – Nido Randwyck has opened its doors in Maastricht, Netherlands, as the award-winning student accommodation platform continues its expansion across Europe.

This project offers 506 studios of which 430 units fall under the social housing allowance limit scheme for people of age 23. The complex has been developed by Urban Developers in close collaboration with Mathieu Bruls architect, Kompas 360, Zuyd Vastgoed and MC2 Management. With a strong focus on sustainability and interior design, Nido Randwyck is an innovative accommodation that meets the local demand for affordable housing.

As a pioneering operational platform Nido provided insight into the design process, bringing in award-winning company ‘A Designer at Heart’ for the interior design which has been instrumental to capturing Nido’s wellbeing design ethos.

As such, students can live in highly specified and amenitised studios, with access to a series of thoughtfully designed study and social spaces, including a gym, outdoor garden, lounges, private dining facilities and co-working areas.

Located in the Randwyck district, famous for hosting the annual TEFAF event (The European Fine Art Fair), the accommodation is a short walk or cycle from the Maastricht University faculties, the city centre and numerous visitor attractions. Maastricht University is one of the top European educational facilities, ranking 127th best university in the world.

In addition to its location and facilities, Nido Randwyck also has various sustainability features such as a largely wooden facade cladding, surrounding garden areas with water retention  for rainwater from the roof, solar panels to reduce energy consumption, a full electric low-temperature climate system, LED lighting and motion sensors. These combined eEnergy measures comply with the regulations for energy neutrality.

Darren Gardner, COO of Nido, said: “We could not be happier to see Nido Randwyck open and the quality of the end product: this is a pioneering scheme that we can truly be proud to operate. With many students booking midway into the season, it is clear that there is a huge need for quality accommodation in the city, which our scheme helps to address, and we are excited and very positive about our opening.”

Nido currently has 4,000 operational beds and another 3,000 in the pipeline across Denmark, Ireland, Netherlands, Portugal, Spain and the UK. Last month Nido launched a new flex living scheme in Valencia (Nido Malvarrosa) with 253 beds predominantly targeted toward students, and this month it launched Principe Pio, a 636-bed flex scheme in Madrid.
