Europe, 13 May 2024 - Nido Living, Europe's leading student accommodation platform has launched its second project in Madrid and fourth in Spain with Nido Príncipe Pío.
This new flex living development follows the first launched by Nido in Valencia earlier this year. Príncipe Pío will be located in the heart of the capital and provide 636 beds aimed specifically at university students and young professionals, is open for bookings now for the new academic year when the scheme will officially open its doors.
The launch of Nido Príncipe Pío follows a 120 million euro investment by Nido who saw the opportunity to deliver much needed accommodation in the cCity, and purchased the high-profile building previously occupied by the Florida Norte hotel.
According to a report by JLL, Madrid is the region in Spain with the most student residences and the largest number of university students. Despite this, the city has a deficit of 45,930 beds, as there are 61,768 students in need of accommodation but only 15,838 beds in residential complexes, according to data from Fragua by Atlas Real Estate.
"Madrid offers great opportunities for growth in the sector because of the large number of students moving from their home city within the country and because it is one of the preferred destinations for international and Erasmus students," says Darren Gardner, CEO of Nido Living, "One of the challenges facing the sector is the scarcity of land on which to build in Madrid and Barcelona, so opening a scheme with so many places in the centre of the capital is a great opportunity to increase Madrid's prestige as one of Europe's great university cities Príncipe Pío and last month’s launch of Nido Malvarrosa in Valencia are part of our ambitious growth plan in Spain.”
Nido Príncipe Pío: living the university experience in the centre of Madrid
Nido Living landed in Madrid last year with its first student residence in Aravaca (Madrid). This year it will continue to expand its presence in the capital with this flex living space strategically located in the centre of the city, on Paseo de la Florida. Located just a few minutes away (via public transport) from the Complutense University of Madrid, the Polytechnic University of Madrid, the Pontifical University of Comillas and Nebrija University, students can easily get to their place of study. In addition, the location provides plenty of tourist attractions being close to famous Madrid monuments such as the Playa Mayor, the Royal Palace and the Temple of Debod, together with the Príncipe Pío Shopping Centre and the Madrid Río park.
Nido Príncipe Pío has 636 beds across 11 floors with a variety of room types. Most room types are private and have a large bed, a long desk with office chair, television, bathroom facilities and a large wardrobe, with a few shared rooms available for friends booking together. Rooms come with a shared kitchen with induction hobs and ovens, microwave, dishwasher and sinks. Studios have an integrated, private kitchen, including an induction hob, extractor fan, microwave oven and fridge with freezer, as well as a breakfast bar.
Nido Príncipe Pío stands out for its range of services and facilities. It offers 24-hour security, maintenance, cleaning, laundry of sheets and towels and fast WiFi connection. In addition, the building follows strict sustainability standards by meeting BREEAM targets during the construction process.
As a flex living space, Nido Príncipe Pío also includes common areas that foster community and leisure time, such as a swimming pool and rooftop terraces, fitness and games rooms, a cinema... "Our centres always ensure maximum comfort for students through the location, the design of the rooms and the services offered, but we also prioritise socialising. We understand the university stage as one of the most special, so our goal is to maximise this experience by offering quick attention, common areas that are committed to personal relationships and events throughout the year created according to the interests of the students", explains Blanca Medina, Residence Manager of Nido Living in Madrid.
